If on holiday in Punat, you can lie idle on the beaches, enjoy the clean sea or spend your holiday actively, on trips, long walks or playing sports.
Punat is situated on the island of Krk, about 30 kilometres to the south of the Krk bridge. The moment when, driving along the road, you notice a picturesque bay with the islet of Košljun in the middle, under the highest peak of the island Veli vrh (588m), you’ve arrived to your destination. You’ll find our agency easily, it’s in the town centre, on the shore, near the post office.
Punat has 2000 permanent inhabitants, it has 3 hotels, a big marina and countless possibilities of accommodation in private apartments. In the town there are many restaurants, cafés, pizza parlours, pastry shops, shops, a fruit and vegetables market, shops with technical goods, banks, a post office, simply everything you might need for your pleasant holiday.
Accommodation
Private apartments in Punat are situated in the new part of the town, right behind the beaches, as well as in the old town centre. The apartments have a completely equipped kitchen with dishes and everything you need to cook and serve meals, a bathroom, a shower-toilet, a living room and bedrooms. Towels (not for the beach) and bed sheets are provided and are changed regularly once a week. You have to bring your own table cloths and detergents. Final cleaning, electricity and water consumption are included in the price. Guests are expected to leave the apartment in a good condition and to wash the dishes. In case of damaged things in the apartment, the owner has the right to claim for those damages.
The beaches
Punat offers beaches from the town centre and from the “Park” hotel along the coast up to the St. Nicolas’s church and several hundred metres further. You can take a walk there or you can take the tourist train, you can go by bike or roller-blade and find yourself a beach which suits you best. The beaches near the centre are concrete beaches. Pebbly and stone beaches can be found all the way to the naturist campsite Konobe – situated 5 kilometres from the town centre. On the beaches there are restaurants, cafés, showers, changing cabins, beach volley playground. The beach cafés do not close with the sunset, you can have fun there until late at night.
A special attraction of Punat are beautiful beaches which can be reached only by boat. You will be taken to one of those beaches by our taxi boats from the port in the town centre.
Surroundings and trips
The islet of Košljun – is a tourist destination where bathing is not allowed. On the islet you can visit a Franciscan monastery from the 15th century, a church and an ethnographic museum. Franciscan monks live on Košljun. The trip there lasts one to two hours, the starting point is in the port in the town centre.
Krk – the main town of the island (5000 inhabitants), situated 7 km from Punat. The town is surrounded by the town walls and it’s worth having a stroll in the ancient centre and doing some sightseeing.
Vrbnik – a small town on the eastern side of the island of Krk, situated on a high cliff. It’s 15 km far from Punat. A famous wine “Vrbnička žlahtina” has made this historical town well-known throughout Europe. The narrow streets of the ancient part of the town, museums, churches and a wonderful view of the mainland leave an unforgettable impression on every visitor.
Baška – 15 km far from Punat, its pearl is the longest sandy beach on the northern Adriatic coast, in summer months it is very visited and quite noisy.
Stara Baška – a miniature village, with the most attractive beaches in its surroundings, it is situated 10 km from Punat. You can park along the road or in the parking area at payment in the campsite, located at the entrance in Stara Baška.
Veli Vrh – the highest hill of the island of Krk (588m), you can reach it on foot along the path from Punat. A simpler way is to go to the pass of Treskavac by car and take a half-an-hour walk along the shepherds’ path to Veli Vrh. Shepherds’ paths are marked walking paths and you can ask for the map of these in our local tourist offices.
Sport
Punat offers a variety of sports activities.
The bay itself is ideal for windsurfing. A 3 kilometre long walking path along the coast is ideal for cycling, roller-blading or walking near the sea. You can hire smaller vessels or canoes on the beaches. You can charter a sailing boat, a motorboat or a motorcycle in Marina Punat. Table tennis, mini golf, tennis courts and scuba diving centres enrich the sports offer. At the entrance to Punat there is a ski-lift.
Culture
Punat offers various cultural events in the framework of the summer festival. You can find the programme in the agency Marina tours. There’s an event almost every other day – classical and pop music concerts, art exhibitions in the gallery “Toš” and so on….
